The EMBRACE Project is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to empowering farming communities in Ghana and Kenya. By integrating biodiversity conservation practices, promoting gender inclusivity, and addressing climate change, we aim to build resilient and sustainable agricultural systems.
Over the course of three years, the project plans to establish 15 agrisilvicultural farmsteads in Ghana and 10 in Kenya. These farmsteads will introduce innovative practices such as cultivating three endangered tree species, integrating three underutilized crops, and supporting alternative livelihoods like snail farming, beekeeping, and mushroom production.
Additionally, EMBRACE will develop community seed systems, implement soil conservation techniques, and train farmers to enhance biodiversity. Led by CSIR-Crop Research Institute in Ghana and funded by GCBC, the project aims to improve the livelihoods of 1,250 underserved households by 40% by 2027, with a particular focus on empowering at least 500 women and youth.
